Hello everyone (: Really successful week all around. I finished my powtoon video on my genius hour intro page as well as my trailer on the genius hour trailer page. go check them out! I also learned a lot about integrating mobile learning into the classroom, both in this tech class and also in my language arts class. I decided on five apps I would show my students how to utilize in the classroom ( i am going to use them myself too :p) More great news, I have consulted various family members and have a better idea of how I will spend my time in switzerland and holland . Hey friends (: I just wanted to do a little reflecting on my genius hour project and also update you on where I'm at! I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as i wanted to my genius project thus far because of homework, assignments, and my job, but i did make some progress. We can dance party to that for a minute! I have found flights to the Netherlands for about $350-$575 nonstop. that is very reasonable, especially considering flights to British Columbia are closer to $700 (sigh). Even more spectacular are the flights I found from Amsterdam to Geneva, Switzerland .. from $80-$150 (dance party, part two). Where the current dilemma lies is the flight from Geneva back to Toronto where we are looking at about $700-$1000. I am going to keep looking to see if those prices go down. The other option is to fly back out of the Netherlands, where the flights are back around $500 with the additional $100 to fly back to Amsterdam from Geneva, still cheaper than a flight home f...

Hey gals and guys! Assessment is such a hot topic these days in the classroom ... what is the best form of assessment? what forms of assessment are taboo? What allows us to best judge students' knowledge/growth? Today I learned about online assessment tools, which not only allow the students to immediately answer questions post reading/viewing the artifact, but also allows the teacher to immediately assess whether the knowledge/learning they wanted to resonate with the student, did or did not, and they can adjust the remainder of the class time accordingly. .... not to mention all the paper we won't be wasting!! Gals and gents! I've recently learned (in literally all my classes) about the importance of reflection. It is a really great tool in one's personal growth and development, as well as fostering the growth and development of my future students. I just want to reflect on this week's tech class a little bit if ya don't mind (: ! This week we used a lot of new technological techniques, such as imbedding slide shows into our blogs (check mine out on my GH proposal page). I also learned how to use both "powtoon" and the "google slides" presentation tool. Stay tuned for my powtoon slideshow which I must say is looking pretty neat so far - I'll be sharing it with y'all at a later date upon its completion. I will definitely be utilizing these newly learned skills in my classroom, and additionally teaching my students these skills to use in their own presentations and projects. Wow, there is a lot I didn’t know about copyright. I honestly didn’t know that as soon as you begin work on a project, piece of art, song, or you take a picture, video, etc. copyright is immediately enabled. I thought one had to put effort into copywriting their work, when ironically it is others who have to put effort into using that work because from the moment of creation only the author of the original work has the right to use it. That makes things quite tricky, especially for wanting to use others’ work in lessons, or for blog posts ;), or if your students are compiling information for a project or presentation. Even with ‘fair dealing’ a Canadian law that allows the use of others’ works for private study, research, criticism, review, or news reporting, isn’t applicable to teaching. Thankfully there has been a surge in ‘creative commons’ or ‘CC’ as we see on images quite often. Hey there! My name is Haley! welcome to my digital portfolio space. I did my undergraduate degree in media, information, and technoculture with a minor in film studies, at the university of western. Since then I have travelled, worked, coached volleyball, and I'm hoping done many more relevant things (that I cannot seem to recall at the moment) in the three years that have passed since my graduation. I made the decision to start my path to become a teacher about a year and a half ago at the retirement party of my childhood volleyball coach. The room was filled with people that loved her, admired her, and appreciated her.
